Westmeath GAA has led the tributes to Kieran Martin after he brought the curtain down on his 16-year inter-county football career.
The powerful Maryland clubman secured his place in the annals of Westmeath football when he scored 2-3 in the Lake County's historic Leinster SFC semi-final victory over neighbours Meath in 2015. He also came off the bench to score the winning goal in the inaugural Tailteann Cup final against Cavan in 2022. Martin's other honours include Allianz League Division 3, 4 and O'Byrne Cup medals, while he was nominated for an All-Star in 2015.
The 35-year-old has also represented his county in senior hurling.
"Westmeath GAA wishes to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding contribution of Kieran Martin, who today announces his retirement from inter-county senior football," a county board statement read.
"Kieran's dedication, leadership and unwavering commitment have left a lasting impact on Westmeath football, and his influence will be remembered for generations.
"A proud product of Maryland GAA, Kieran served his county with distinction for well over a decade. His work-rate, physicality and spirit embodied everything Westmeath supporters value in one of their own."
