Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Notes

Return to play

The good news from last week’s Westmeath county board meeting is that the All-County Leagues are set to commence on Tuesday, June 8 and Wednesday, June 9.

The CCC is also proposing that the U19 and Junior 'B' football championships commence in June with U19FC games to be played on Thursdays and JFC 'B' games on Tuesdays.

It was also confirmed that the championships will return to groups of six and that there will be at least one round played midweek due to time constraints. The championships will start on the weekend of August 14/15 if, as expected, the county hurlers are involved in the National League Division 1 relegation playoff, and will finish in early November.

Despite being allowed to return to collective training last Monday, May 10, clubs were asked to refrain from playing challenge matches until further notice.

Underage

Our underage training sessions have been very well attended since they returned in the last few weeks.

With over 100 kids attending our most recent session last Thursday, there is a need for additional mentors, especially for our younger age groups. Please contact Fergal Fox if you are willing to volunteer to support our underage in any way. Training and guidance will be provided. Parents are also asked to socially distance if attending training.

Please follow Covid guidelines by filling out your child's returntoplay.gaa.ie form. Coaches are reminded that they must complete the GAA’s Temporary Safeguarding 1 Programme online if they haven’t done so already. It takes just an hour-and-a-half to complete.

National Club Draw

Tickets for the GAA National Club draw are available to purchase from any club member up this Friday, May 14, with the draw taking place on Friday, June 4.

Tickets cost €10 with all proceeds going to the club. Prizes vary from a Renault car to All-Ireland final tickets and a variety of cash prizes.

The late Arthur Morgan

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Arthur Morgan, Skehanagh after an illness last Thursday.

We extend our sympathy to his wife Dodo (Teresa) and sons John and Peter, who are former Kilbeggan Shamrocks players. Indeed, John won an U21FC ‘B’ medal with the club in 1988.

We also offer our condolences to Arthur's brothers Ger and Joey, who also wore the Kilbeggan jersey, sisters Roberta, Pauline, Stephanie, Lourde and extended family.

Arthur was a livestock agent who was well-known and well-liked within the farming community. RIP.
