Derek McGrath has questioned the choice of venue for today’s Waterford SHC final.
Fraher Field in Dungarvan will host the decider between 11-in-a-row chasing Ballygunner and Abbeyside, but McGrath would rather see it played at the redeveloped Walsh Park. There is an arrangement in place that sees the county finals alternate between the two venues every second year.
"It (Walsh Park) is so well served at the moment both in terms of the playing surface and the amenities available,” the former Waterford manager and current boss of high-flying Limerick outfit Doon told WLR.
It's 'the' venue at the moment in terms of Waterford, even the nights we played Tipperary and Cork there. I think the final should be there. The other thing I'd say is that Abbeyside played really well there last Sunday.
“If I had my vote, I'd be voting for it in Walsh Park and so would a lot of people. Look, we'll still travel to Dungarvan. It's a county final. If you love your hurling, you'll be up there watching it."
