Waterford LGFA has led the tributes to former star underage player Ella O’Neill who has passed away unexpectedly.

Hailing from Clashmore, the popular young woman captained her county at underage level and was also a talented camogie player with Modeligo. She is survived by her parents JJ and Josephine, brother Darragh, sister Aoife, grandparents Kitty (O'Neill) and Marie (McGrath) aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and many friends.

“Waterford LGFA would like to extend our sincere condolences to Ella's family JJ, Josephine, Darragh, and Aoife, her extended family, friends, and team-mates,” a social media post read.

“Ella represented both her club and county on the field of play with great distinction. A popular captain of underage Waterford teams, she had recently started to contribute to her club Clashmore Kinsalebeg as a coach to their underage teams.”

In another tribute, Waterford Camogie said: “It is with profound sadness that we learned earlier today the news of the untimely death of Ella O’Neill.

“Ella was a member of the Modeligo Camogie Club & was part of the Modeligo Adult team who secured their first ever adult title in 2019. Ella’s commitment to Modeligo and Camogie was second to none. Travelling from Clashmore to Modeligo to play her beloved sport. Ella will always be remembered fondly by all of us in camogie.”
