Cork camogie star Ashling Thompson says that last Sunday’s All-Ireland final win over Galway is “definitely up there” with her best victories with the Rebels.

Thompson earned her seventh Celtic Cross after Ger Manley’s side dethroned the Tribeswomen with a thrilling 2-14 to 0-19 victory at Croke Park.

Speaking to southernstar.ie, the 36-year-old said that the one-point victory, which secured Cork’s 31st O’Duffy Cup, ranks among the best she’s experienced during her time in the red and white.

“It’s definitely up there,” she said. “It was a well fought battle. The year itself took on a story of its own. We had some trouble in the league and in Munster but the way these girls built themselves in the championship campaign has been incredible. Galway fought back but to get there and dog it out shows the character of this team. What exceptional players they are.”

She added: “I have played with some exceptional players over the years. I have been through a few generations at this stage.

“I’m exceptionally fortunate but at the end of the day, this is all about now. This All-Ireland is definitely up there given how hard the girls worked all year. It’s been unbelievable.”
