Watch: O'Connell's last-gasp point sees Farney men deny Derry

Karl O’Connell’s point in the sixth minute of injury-time made sure that Derry and Monaghan would share the points on a 0-14 to 0-14 scoreline at Celtic Park this evening.

The Oak Leafers looked on course for back-to-back championship wins over Vinny Corey’s men after a couple of Shane McGuigan points steered them in front late on but, after some patient build up play, O’Connell was able to fire over the equaliser at the death for the visitors.

Monaghan had edged the first 35 minutes, with Conor McCarthy’s free leaving it at 0-7 to 0-6 at the break, and Conor Boyle’s point had them two up early in the restart.

Despite falling three behind with a quarter of an hour to go, the Ulster champions would find their rhythm and the scores of Lachlan Murray, McGuigan and Ethan Doherty brought the match level in injury-time.

A brilliantly struck free marked McGuigan’s ninth point of the evening and looked to have won it for the home side until this late intervention from O’Connell:
