It’s been a memorable week for the Mitchell cousins, Charlie and Niall.

Amid euphoric scenes last Wednesday night in Carlow, Charlie captained the Offaly U20 hurlers to a Leinster final victory over Wexford. It was a bitter-sweet success for the Kilcormac/Killoughey clubman who was sent off on a second yellow card, but still ended up lifting the Sean Robbins Cup. Charlie now has two more big finals to look forward to over the next two weekends – Saturday’s Joe McDonagh Cup final with the Offaly seniors and the All-Ireland U20 final against Cork on Sunday week.

Not to be outdone, his second cousin Niall came off the bench to score two late goals for Westmeath in their sensational Leinster SHC comeback victory over Wexford last Sunday. Niall, who has missed most of the season through injury, is an outstanding dual player who starred in The Downs’ run to last year’s Leinster club SFC final.
