O’Donnell Park has been confirmed as the venue for Donegal’s Ulster SFC quarter-final against Down next month.

Jim McGuinness had expressed the hope that recent improvement works at MacCumhaill Park would be completed in time for Donegal to begin their bid for a three-in-a-row of Ulster SFC titles in Ballybofey, but the quarter-final will take place in Letterkenny as planned on Sunday, April 26.

“Our primary ground, MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey has been undergoing improvement works, which include a new pitch surface, whilst works are on schedule, the venue is not yet available. We wish CLG Sean MacCumhaills well with the completion of same. Our thanks to St Eunan’s GAA for their hospitality and we look forward to another exciting Ulster Senior Football Championship,” a Donegal GAA statement read.

O’Donnell Park’s 8,000-capacity is less than half of that of MacCumhaill Park, which means tickets will be at a premium. The winners will face either Fermanagh, Armagh or Tyrone in the semi-final a week later.

Letterkenny hosted one of Donegal’s home Allianz League Division 1 matches against Mayo this spring, with the other two against Kerry and Galway taking place in Ballyshannon’s Fr Tierney Park.
