St Brigid’s booked their place in the All-Ireland club senior football championship final against Dingle thanks to a 1-16 to 1-12 victory over Scotstown before a 4,837 crowd at a freezing cold Kingspan Breffni this afternoon.

Brian Derwin’s brilliantly take goal six minutes in marked the perfect start for Anthony Cunningham’s men in Cavan Town and, after falling two behind, they’d send over some key scores in the run up to half-time to take in a 1-10 to 1-6 half-time lead before going on to win out by the same margin.

Scotstown were able to recover from the early blow of Derwin’s goal by finding the net themselves via Jack McCarron’s superb finish and the scores of Max Maguire and Francis Maguire (two-pointer) moved them two ahead by the 18th minute.

The Connacht champions got it level before falling behind again to Micheál McCarville’s point, but the closing five minutes of the first-half saw them sending over 0-5 unanswered.

The second-half would see Cunningham’s men adding a Conor Hand two-pointer to extend their advantage while at the other end they kept their Monaghan counterparts to six points with the help of a sensational 55th minute block by Sean Trundle on an effort that was goal-bound.

Bobby Nugent raised his own personal tally to 0-7 down the home stretch, as two points from McCarron (one free) and another by McCarville left Scotstown four short in the end.

The result means that St Brigid will now look to claim their club’s second Andy Merrigan Cup success in two weeks' time at Croke Park, with their maiden triumph coming in 2013 when they defeated Ballymun Kickhams at HQ.
