One of Dublin’s oldest GAA clubs, Parnells, has been placed in liquidation.
The home club of Dublin great Stephen Cluxton, Parnells has served the parishes of Coolock and Artane for more than 130 years.
It was confirmed by the club before Christmas that their clubhouses and pitches were handed over to the Marist Order, from which it was leasing the land.
A report from the Irish Independent yesterday said that a resolution was passed a meeting of the Parnell GAA Club Company Limited last week that said the club “cannot, by reason of its liabilities, continue its business and that it be wound up voluntarily as a creditors’ voluntary winding up.”
It was proposed at the meeting that Tom O'Brien of Forvis Mazars be appointed as liquidator.
