Paul Faloon will take charge of Sunday’s Ulster Club SFC final between Scotstown and Glen.

The appointment comes less than two months after the experienced inter-county match official was at the centre of the Down SFC final refereeing controversy which has been investigated by Croke Park.

In an astonishing chain of events, Meath's David Gough was drafted in to replace Faloon after Kilcoo had objected to the Drumgath clubman’s appointment. However, Gough then withdrew, leaving stand-by referee Brian Higgins to fill the void and ensure the final went ahead.

The controversy overshadowed Kilcoo’s 2-12 to 0-9 victory over Burren and prompted a statement from Down GAA criticising the Magpies’ stance and vowed to ensure that there would be no right of appeal against the appointment of a referee in future.

Faloon was also on duty last weekend when he handled the Ulster Club IFC semi-final between Ballyhaise and Glenullin.
