NUI Galway secured their safe passage to the last eight of this year's Sigerson Cup courtesy of a 3-10 to 2-7 win over Queen’s University last night.
Early goals from Mayo duo, Fionn McDonagh and Tommy Conroy, laid the foundations for Maurice Sheridan side’s six-point victory.
Galway’s Sean Kelly added a third three-pointer after the break while Armagh’s Conor Turbitt top scored for the losing outfit with 2-4.
Meanwhile, in Tralee, three first-half goals were instrumental in MTU Kerry’s 4-9 to 1-10 round 2 win over MTU Cork.
Mark O’Shea’s 3rd minute three-pointer gave the winners the early momentum and further goals from Ryan O’Grady and Daragh Lyne parachuted them into a 3-7 to 1-4 interval lead.
Substitute Cathal Ferriter added gloss to their victory with a fourth goal after the break.
Elsewhere, David Clifford was on fire as University of Limerick registered a 2-23 to 3-15 success over Letterkenny Institute of Technology at the Connacht GAA Air Dome in Bekan.
