Carlow manager Turlough O'Brien is delighted to be back in the role

Carlow’s Turlough O’Brien is eager to get back to work following his reappointment as senior football manager.

O’Brien was ratified at the most recent county board meeting amid rumours that he would not receive the backing of some club delegates and county board members.

However, that never transpired and now the Carlow manager is looking forward to planning for next year and he already has put his backroom team in place.

Steven Poacher is remaining as coach, while Rathvilly’s Darren Leonard and Eire Og’s Simon Rea come in as selectors.

Fighting Cocks Kieran Nolan is the new S&C coach, while his brother Gerry is the physio for the coming year.

Speaking to the Carlow Nationalist, O’Brien said: “Delighted to be back. We have freshened up the back room team and they are all looking forward to getting involved.

“The players are very pleased with the make-up of the backroom team as well. We haven’t got the backroom team together yet but we will be doing that very shortly.

“Things are very positive. We are looking forward. There is great experience in that team and I think it will add something to the set-up.”
