Cork will meet Kerry in the Munster minor football championship final on June 2nd after both sides came through their respective semi-finals yesterday evening.

Denis O’Mullane and Seán Coakley struck a brace of goals each as Cork recorded a 5-9 to 1-11 win over Tipperary at Semple Stadium.

With nothing separating the teams at the halfway stage (0-7 to 1-4), the Rebel County kicked on in the closing 10 minutes in Thurles as Coakley and Dara Sheedy fired in goals to secure the holders’ passage to a third successive provincial decider in the grade.

In Newcastlewest, Kerry cruised to a 1-19 to 1-2 victory against Limerick to ensure it’s be a repeat of last year’s final pairing.

The Kingdom started slowly as it took them 19 minutes to put their first score on the board but they’d manage to take in a 0-6 to 1-1 lead at the interval, with Padraig Murphy having netted the goal for the hosts.

The visitors kept in front after the resumption and turned the screw with a Dara Hogan goal late on while Paddy Lane finished with 0-7 to his name.

Cork and Kerry are now set to cross swords in the Munster MFC final two weeks from today at Austin Stack Park, Tralee (throw-in 7.30pm).
