Aughnamullen club notes

September 23, 2020

Junior Championship Winners: On Saturday last Aughnamullen won their 4th Junior Championship when they had a brilliant 19 point victory over a gallant Sean Mc Dermott side. The manner in which the boys played was a joy to watch with pride and we hope its a stepping stone for further success ahead. Anyway on to the game both teams started brightly and after the first quarter the sides were level 1-3 to 0-6 our scores coming from Tiernan Duffy, Sean Sheridan, Michael Bannigan and goal by the Creeve blond goal machine Joel Wilson. In the last 15 minutes of the half Aughnamullen scored 1-5 without reply our scores coming from Tiernan Duffy 0-3, Michael Bannigan and 1-1 from the Drumullard goal machine Kevin Sheridan. Sean Mc Dermotts scored 1-2 to cut the gap to 4 and at half time it was 2-9 to 1-8. In the 3rd quarter known in GAA circles at moving quarter that definitely applied to Aughnamullen as they scored 1-5 again to Sean Mc Dermotts 2 points to be 3-14 to 1-10 our scorers ranging from Michael Bannigan, Sean Sheridan, Tiernan Duffy(2) and another 1-1 by the aforementioned Kevin Sheridan to leave us almost there. In the final quarter management decided to empty the bench with men like Eddie Mc Ardle, Lee Conlan & Chris Keenan providing valuable experience in the final shootout and in the final quarter the boys chipped away with scores by Tiernan Duffy, Darren Geoghegan(2), Jason Duffy, Kevin Sheridan, Michael Bannigan 1-1 and a point by veteran Chris Keenan to leave the final score of 4-21 to 1-11 to end a memorable game. This was a true masterful display from Thomas Marron, Stephen Ward, Paul Connolly in the full back line. The half back line of Keith Sheridan  Pete Dooney and Kieran Duffy. Midfield of Sean Sheridan 2 points from play and Tiernan Duffy who scored 6 points on the day 5 from play. Half forward line of Jason Duffy, Michael Bannigan and Joel Wilson  and full forward line of Mark Mc Ardle, Kevin Sheridan who finished with 2-5 and Darren Geoghegan. Our substitutes of Sam Dooney, Shane Lambe, Lee Conlon, Eddie Mc Ardle and Chris Keenan. Many thanks is extended to a number of people who made this happen and a debt of gratitude is extended to them
