Players coming from the Navan area

Replying To COUNTYTOCOUNTY:  "Some of the comments on here are absolutely laughable. Yous are on about De La Salle impact on football in Navan, like seriously.
NOM have declined there is no doubt about it but they were the second best team in the intermediate championship this year and were not far off league promotion. They had a very young panel.
Previous years at underage but still have players like Louis Collins, Jack McConnell, Aodhan Mallon and others coming through.
Won a Div2 Minor not so long ago.
Simonstown had a good league campaign and improved on their previous championships reaching this years QF.
Again, reached two Div1 minor league finals again and a championship SF where they lost to Cilles in the same year (think it was 2019). They also have a few nice young footballers in Josh Carolan (Meath young player 2019), Aaron Farrelly, Micheal Gavin, Mark Devlin and a lot of others too.
Its not that Navan has bad footballers its that other areas simply have more resources and a far greater pool to pick from.In the last 10 years a navan club has appeared in 5 finals.
If youre going on about North Meath having no football pedigree anymore you may give your head a wobble.
The Tones are always there or there abouts in championships and league. Kells had a freak year, as did Dunboyne. I don't hear anyone here talking about Dunboyne, Dunsh or Laytown/Bettystown questioning why their standard of football considering Navan clubs are hitting higher targets than these areas."
How were NOM the second best team? Duleek obviously were considering they made the final and pushed Rathkenny a lot closer than NOM did.

St Pats Navan out before the Leinster quarter final. Will be 12 years next year since the last Leinster final appearance. A real concern for Meath football that what should be one of our best young player pathways isn't really producing anymore

That's very disappointing result as this was a decent Pats team that had high hopes of doing well.

I wouldn't be too worried about that. A lot of the Cilles, Duleek and Pats even Seneschalstown lads go to school in Drogheda.

Ashbourne, Curraha, Ratoath all go to school there. A couple of Seneschalstown go to Ash as well.

A good chunk of Skryne, Dunshaughlin and surrounding clubs go to Dunshaughlin.

While Tones, Rathkenny, Castletown go to Nobber.

Pats has gone back as they are facing other issues which is off the pitch and now they have Beaufort and the new school in Johnstown to compete with

There was no great expectation about this year's Pats senior team. They were blessed to beat an average Ardee team in what was a weak group.
Marist had three footballers better than any of the Pats lads and they dragged them through. They were braver also while Pats played it safe all along. Three up with five to play and Pats dropped everyone back to not concede a goal. Gave away three points and then won the last kick out. Moved the ball backwards and sideways for 60 seconds rather than go for the winner, Marist forced a turnover and broke to score the winning point with the last kick of the game.
Football is not the be all and end all it once was in the greater Navan area.
Beaufort and Colaiste na Mi in Johnstown have little effect on Pats, they are schools which pull from the non-traditional part of greater Navan.

Where did this myth come from about the Pat's ? every year its the same about the great team they have, it's a bit like our county senior team being highly regarded because they were a great team long ago. There is a belief in some quarters that if you pay for Pats you are a fantastic footballer, this was the case in the early 2000's a bit like Munster rugby but those days are long gone. There are as good of players in Drogheda, Nobber Dunshaughlin

Look back at the last excellent Pats team, Dardis was coming from Summerhill to play with them. Like he was completely bypassing Trim which would have been a lot closer to go to school. Now I know one of his parents works in Navan so that makes a difference.

Now Pats are struggling to get lads who are exceptional footballers in the catchment area in. They are going to Dunshaughlin, Nobber, Ashbourne. Now they might only be get 2 or 3 between them who would be good enough to make the Pats team but it has an effect on Pats. Similarly with Beaufort and Johnstown, there's probably 1-2 lads there who are good enough to make the Pats team and years ago Pats would have made sure they were in their system but that seems to have gone.
