Agreed. Hard to figure out why he wasn't brought on at all on Saturday night, given how much the back 6 were struggling. Colm said afterwards there was a lack of experience on the pitch. Well he had experienced lads sitting behind him on the bench and didn't use them.

Very true. It was a bizarre thing to say when he had experience right behind him and chose not to use them

You make a fair point, we were lightweight and lacked in experience, dont think management would argue about that, however, this is a new era and like it or not Colm wants to give the new lads experience and only way is to give them game time especially against a good side like Derry. Having the cushion of four points helped, it was always a big ask to go there and win, sure he hoped for a better display but if we hope to go forward we have to rebuild. Many of your team played against Down and Offaly last year and did not set world alight. He knows what S Mac and Harnan and others bring to the team and is now looking at adding a bit of new blood. For now McGill is not in panel so little point including him, for me he never developed into a top class intercounty player 2019 is a long time ago. Still plenty of time for him to do whatever management asked and prove he is worth his place. There is going to be more ups and downs before we see major improvement, no matter what management do some people will find fault Colm layed out exactly the type of player/person he wants in panel and we need to thrust in the man. Hope to see Flynn and two injured lads back soon, should make a big difference.

we are losing out twice without having keoghan at 6 IMO. He is struggling to play the position but then we are also missing what he offers from 5 or 7

Yep. I'd agree with you there. I'd stick mcentee for 35 mins at 6. And harnan other 35. Both have experience and knowledge of the game

Just going to add one other player. Mcnamee from ballinabrackey. Don't know if he was picked for regional team. But looks like a player that could do well at senior level. Has been knocking around a few years. Lutch could probably give some details on age etc. the few times I saw him last year I was impressed. Don't know why he was never tried at county. I believe he is related to the Offaly mcnamees , I'd know his mother as she was a near neighbor growing up. He might be too old I don't know. Lutch has he ever been given a try out with Meath ? royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 20/02/2023 15:58:43 2459443 Link 0 |
I genuinely think Shane Mc is out of favour. In my opinion he was never good enough to play intercounty but by all accounts he is an excellent man to have around the dressing room - hence why he was made captain previously. McGill is the best full back in the county. Colm doesn't seem to fancy the Ratoath lads. Brian Mc, Wallace (I think Joey is injured), Flynn etc. I know McMahon and the Wallaces have had enough chances, but Eamon could play a role as a half back which he did so well for Ratoath. Great Post as was thinking the same re the older lads. Been there and couldn't cut it so let them younger lads have a reality check. I would argue that he also showed them some respect by not putting them on in the second half as realistically the game was already done by half time so he didn't treat them like canon fodder. I wouldn't be surprised if he gives a few of them the start the next day on fresh legs. Irish_downunder (Meath) - Posts: 642 - 21/02/2023 09:02:28 2459532 Link 1 |
At this stage the manager seems to be trying to develop the North Meath Lads. If he wanted to bring in some experience there is a lot of it between Ratoath and Summerhill. In fact the 1 Ratoath lad brought in is standing out and Ratoath have 6 or 7 even better. Summerhill also had terrific tenacious backs who I would not like to be tackled by. These are not even listed as subs. Some here mentioned an experienced sub who certainly got maximum opportunities and struggled as a result of been played when not in form and took some roastings as a result. If he is been rested until ready it can only be better for him and the team. Ashrules (Dublin) - Posts: 553 - 24/02/2023 12:30:13 2459993 Link 1 |
As a South meath man I would have to disagree with this. I have consistently call bulls**t on this anti north meath narrative that some posters on here believed the previous management had so I have to do the same here when it is being suggested the current management are favoring North Meath players over South Meath players. It is utter codswallop. Managers do not favor players because they are from a certain region or a club from a certain region. This simply does not happen. It would be completely counter productive for COR to have such a strategy instead of just picking what he feels are the best players no matter where they are from which i am 100% certain he does the same as the previous management did before him. Why would a manager jeopardize his chances of doing well with the team by picking not the best players available but instead pick lads because they are from a certain region or a certain club?? You can argue you think he should have different lads on who he doesn't have on thats absolutely but the arguement he's picking lads over other lads based on the area they are from just doesn't stack up Blackspot09 (Meath) - Posts: 1012 - 24/02/2023 13:44:58 2460003 Link 2 |
