2 week break now. Derry got over the line (just about) v Louth and by all accounts Limerick were sticky. Massive ask going up there. Be a real test of the new regime and approach against a really top side seasiderblues (Meath) - Posts: 353 - 05/02/2023 19:28:57 2456729 Link 1 |
Pivotal game. I'd love a win but I'd take a draw.

If we concede scores like we have against Cork and Clare we will be in trouble. Goals have gotten us over the line against both teams but I don't see Derry being cut open as easily. I am a lot more optimistic about the game than I would have been 2 weeks ago after seeing us show we are able to put up decent scores now but I now have the opposite worry in that we have conceded 35 times in 2 games against teams with average forward lines. I am assuming that McGill will be back to add a bit of steel to the defense with Flood moving out to corner back, but the fact that O Rourke hasn't even put him in either match day squad so far is quite strange, and despite suggestions on the Clare thread he is not injured at all. Jack Flynn played for Ratoath against Trim in the Feis cup so he might also feature, and hopefully both Walsh and Costello will have recovered in time and give us our strongest possible squad to choose from. ratlag (Meath) - Posts: 582 - 07/02/2023 09:34:37 2456941 Link 1 |
I think the Derry game is a real test for management and with the 2 week break gives time for remedial work to be done. Not rocket science to very much improve Kickout strategy in this time. To say that cant be improved is a joke!! Management should concentrate on areas where they have direct control like on field performance They have to keep the eye on the ball .Other areas like Sigerson cup matters are for another day. and although a factor it is a concern that cant be dealt with in 2 weeks. I totally accept we have to have our best 20 players in Derry .Yes we also have to have a decent kickout system in place for Derry . I expect us to break at least 50/50 in the middle so a lot of work to be done but at least it is clear what needs to be improved through structured training sessions in the next 2 weeks. We CAN win in Derry if we attend to the needs indentified in the last 2 matches no excuses. That will be sufficient because Derry are no world beaters either. Condidence in COR & co. to do what is necessary and rise to the challenge. Meath to win.!

Confident about this match after the last two games. I think we have the backs to hold Derrys forwards but they are a lot stronger than us in midfield with Glass and Rogers. UsernameInvalid (Meath) - Posts: 409 - 07/02/2023 14:28:22 2457064 Link 1 |
Going up there full of confidence. If Walsh and Costelloe are fit, game on …
