Any views on open draw for club championship? Borderroyal (Meath) - Posts: 496 - 08/04/2022 11:09:22 2410223 Link 0 |
From my reading it's an open draw for quarter finals - so makes finishing 1st or 2nd irrelevant …. Only leads to dead duck games in the group. Only Meath would come up with an idea like this !!! Anmhi364 (Meath) - Posts: 65 - 08/04/2022 13:56:29 2410251 Link 1 |
I don't think anybody was complaining with the knockout element of the old system. To me 4 groups of 4 with 2 coming out and 1st and 2nd in the group meaning something is a great system. The only logic I can think of is that one group could be extremely strong compared to another. But if you were going to try and seed it I would say to maybe have the 4 semi finalists from last year as top seeds so they couldn't be drawn with eachother. But I wouldn't be in favour of that either LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 08/04/2022 14:16:52 2410256 Link 2 |
Its absolutely crazy, unless they did it where all the top teams go into one pot and the 2nd place teams into another pot and draw that way so you don't know who you will be playing by monitoring a particular group but there is still the benefit and reward for topping your group.............as there is in pretty much every group staged competition of any sport I think I've ever watched. ratlag (Meath) - Posts: 582 - 08/04/2022 14:34:03 2410261 Link 0 |
I don't mind the idea of seeding, the previous semi finalists in Pot 1, 4 beaten quarter finalists in pot 2, and the the remaining 3rd & 4th placed teams plus the upcoming Inter champs in a 3rd pot. I don't think it would make a great deal of difference really to over all outcome of a championship though
