I could be very wrong but I honestly think the lack of a strategy and tactical approach is why we see these issues. We lack some spine but I do think there's a handful of lads (Jones, menton, Harnan, S mcenteee, keogan, McGill) have shown it but it wears you down having no way to express yourself. I don't think they are a passive bunch but we play a brand of football that isn't working at the moment. Put Cillian into a cohert system where he knows his role and I do think he's a star. My issue with some of your points is that while I agree we aren't near it, I don't it's due to lack of effort or passion to play for Meath from Andy or players but it's just Andy's limitations tactically and some profile of players missing from the panel (and county) at senior. I wouldn't say Andy is limited tactically, looking around the county I'd hazard a guess that apart from 2/3 players the best in county (over 20s) that is. Are on the panel. The style of play ? Is the running game. Unfortunately pack a defense and we struggle big time. Without harping back, graham Reilly running at defenses got us a fair few frees, and we had accurate free takers (mainly Newman) or ward in early days who converted them , he wasn't easily dispossessed. Now I could use other examples of players doing similar things. Cillian tries to do same but is easier dispossessed as is wallace's etc , and refs don't buy the forward in possession is fouled as easily these days . We haven't got a marquee forward. That is the problem where others can feed off. One would be great two brilliant but we have none. And that's the problem. I know Andy hasn't changed the set up that he believes will get the win. And I actually know that the players are happy playing the running game. But it isn't yielding the results we need, yes it will beat half of the country. But it won't the other half. I think tactics wise Andy showed fantastic tactics in winning the Dublin club championship, let's leave the Leinster and all ire ones aside, the club was at best 4th fav to win Dublin but he had a array of different types of players and he used them to their fullest, changing game plans and set ups regularly. The players in the club believed in him even to go as far as mdm saying he was best manager he ever played under (after he left) . So is it that we just not producing the players, is there and gem out there that can be brought in. Look how limited we were when jones and McGill were out, apart from hogan from dead balls the only other player that can kick a point from outside the 40 is menton. Again sorely missed in league. I know I'm rambling on and on here. But I just don't know what next year will hold under a new manager (which I still believe needs to happen). But look at how awful a talented group of players were in u20. Maybe it's time to look at manager outside county. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 23/04/2022 20:34:36 2412593 Link 1 |

Hopefully not too soon, but what happens if we are beaten before getting to Leinster Final?

I've heard that Frayne, Gray and Caulfield were involved with the seniors in some capacity at the weekend. Have no idea if it was an A v B in house game or they're in training but heard they were involved LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 25/04/2022 20:49:51 2413227 Link 1 |
We're still in the Sam Maguire, it'll kick off after the provincial finals as if a division 3/4 team gets to the provincial final they get to play in the Sam Maguire in a preliminary round That's my understanding. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 26/04/2022 10:00:00 2413258 Link 1 |
Would hope that's just to give them a flavour of things. Think they're all 19 and still U20 next year and we shouldn't be rushing them through to senior level. Allow them to develop naturally and at their own pace and get used to bullying someone a bit at that U20 level and club level..
