An interesting first round of the 20's with Colmcilles beaten who'd have been favourites to win it all Matt Costello was brilliant from what I heard. Ratoath also beaten by Summerhill. Ashbourne, Dunshauglin, Summerhill and Clonard/Bracks left. I'd maybe fancy Dunshauglin but it's fairly open. In division 2 there's plenty of big names with Seneschalstown, Navan, Dunboyne and Trim/Tones left, all senior clubs next year. I would give our lads a good chance to win but again don't really know who's good and who isn't, who's taking it seriously and who isn't

Have to say u20 grading was fairly spot on apart from bracks/clonard who everyone thought (including themselves) shouldn't be there won by 10 points the other games were all very close

Loads of faith in those young lads, brilliant display, 10 point win a bit flattering as it was a very good contest, we just seemed to get the scores more easily.

Management had them flying so credit to them and the boys.

Smullen from Clonard seems to be flying at the minute too. I watched him for DCU in the 2nd year all Ireland colleges final and he didn't look out of place at all. May be worthy of a call up to the senior panel to see how he gets on

One would have to ask questions of the Cilles after all their Minor final appearances and victories that they only entered 1 team in this years competition. See where their 3rd team won the premiership
8 last weekend and was made up of ex players with an average age of 39 / 40 . Their development of youngsters should be priority as at this age group drop outs/ fall offs have really commenced so getting them game time would be most important . I suppose the same could be said of alot of urban teams dont imagine the cost of entering this competition is a stumbling block. Or is it down too long
a season?

Well Oldsam, just to let you know the Cilles were missing 12 lads the other night who were playing with St Mary's school in the Lennon cup final. They had 6 lads starting and 6 others on the panel. So I would imagine with a couple others who maybe injured or sick Etc that that was a team in it self missing. So I'd imagine maybe that's why they didnt put in a second team.It was their fourth team who won the premier 8 last Sunday.Their third team was mainly made up of young lads a development squad that played this year in premier 5 I believe.I know alot of clubs are taking this route(development squads)as to keep lads playing together right through and not lose as many lads.

Point taken , its not the result of the game on Friday night I was referring to , I was questioning the Cilles inability to field a second under 20 side in the competition . When submissions were been made for this , surely the genie in the bottle didn't know the Mary's were going to make the school final , and I would be correct in saying with Pats , Mary's & D/ B having reps on the school side , liaison between all parties could have taken place . Yes I know 12 lads were involved but surely with 3 of the last Yr minor sides with panels of 20 , ladscould have been accommodated?

Unfortunately Oldsam it was known from way out that there would be a clash of days and also that St Marys would be in the final coz they had hammered everyone up and down, the county and province. I understand that contact was made early doors but neither fixtures were for budging. D/B were heavily impacted as well looking at their result.

Add in a lengthy injury list, College exams and because i believe that players cant play in two u20 competitions the view that it would be a stretch in those circumstances and unfair on players. Part time work as well comes into it, I know as i was one of the players that was asked for my view. I can tell you that it wasn't taken lightly and everyone was disappointed that we couldn't make it work this year. On a side note, December isn't any time to play a competition and surely group stages would be better and could be played off in same number of weeks. I think thats the real discussion here not having pot shots at a club, If it is so important then as a county we need to find a slot. Half the teams in the u20 are gone now. What is the point of u20 so ? Its an afterthought and thats wrong. The tournaments that the clubs had set up themselves and were ready to go were better than a knock out. It is lipservice However on the plus side the Premier Championship was excellent. I really enjoyed that with 7 games and games happened when they should have.

I hope that clears it up for you Oldsam. Make sure you know all the facts first

Well said!
I think you are right about the 20s being an after thought! At least give guys a couple of games!
Cilles at full strength would have been a different proposition
Cest La vie!!
