Club Fixtures Post Championships

(Oldest Posts First)

Just released this morning:

The Meath CCC has taken the decision not to proceed with a number of competitions.

When the resumption of the championships and leagues were announced in June, the Co Board said they would examine the possibility of holding an extra league series, a District Football Championship, an U19FC, an U21HC and the Brendan Davis Cup after the club championship and league finals were played.

However, there will now not be time for those competitions to be played given the schedule for the remainder of the year.

Prior to the championship starting there were two rounds of football and three rounds of hurling leagues played. In football one round remains (18 Oct) before semi-finals (1 Nov) and finals (15 Nov). The Tailteann, Boyne and Feis Cup finals will be played on 26 October.

In the hurling leagues four rounds remain (25 Oct, 8, 22, 29 Nov) and the finals scheduled for 11 December.

An optional U20FC wil take place on Wednesday evenings with each side guaranteed three groups games (4, 11,18 Nov) before semi-finals (28 Nov) and finals (3 Dec).

Regarding the district FC and cup competitions I can understand, however what is the issue with playing u19 FC and the u21HC? These are knockout tournaments and can surely be ran off within 3/4 weeks.

Very disappointing to see hurling competitions not getting equal treatment to football, if U-21 FC is played so too should U-21 HC also Feis Cup being played and not Brendan Davis Cup. Hurling section has lost its voice at Countyboard Top Table in the last two years with a number of strong influential hurling men removed.

Believe it was to be something similar to what is ran in Kerry, teams outside the senior ranks joining up based on their area to play a championship against senior clubs (east kerry, west Kerry etc) unsure of the Meath combos or names

I'm not sure if they were to play the senior clubs.....it may just have been a regional competition. The details of the 8 amalgamated teams were published during the summer.

Disappointing but not surprising.

You think at least the Co Board would play the U21 Hurling to Mirror the U20 football. What is the big issue here as it is normally knock out and will be done after 3 rounds. Look at what the Dual clubs have brought to the Championships already this year. A bit of reward would be appreciated. And it's not as if there is going to be a ref shortage for games in the next month or so.

So where's the equality between hurling and football in the county? Under 20 FC but no under 20 HC, who's decision was this? The future of club & county in Meath hurling and they can't participate in the own age category, especially players when it's their final year of under 20.
Is this some way to lure lads to focus on football rather than hurling? I know it's a difficult time of year, but don't just choose one over the other, that's the worse you could do. I feel a championship is more important than league and if it means pushing hurling league out to accommodate it, so be it but these are the future of club & county hurling in Meath.
It's a joke.

wwhhaatt...sure Paddy Kelly is now 2nd in command as vice chair and Hurling club personal are running the ccc. Hurling never had as man people in strong positions, Leinster reps are both from dual clubs and a real active Hurling rep is on County Board as Hurling chair.

Give us the names of the "strong influential hurling men removed"

While U21 was always going the proposed U19 is now moved to U20 which I take means both codes.

Brendan Davis never started but as the football Knock out competitions are now at Final stages its easy to explain the rational there.

With only one mostly meaningless Round of Football Leagues to be played and 4 Rounds of Hurling Leagues left is another reason why Davis Cup is not on the cards.

Wake up and smell the roses Hurling with less than 33% of the players in 2020 getting a bigger slice of the cake

All rolled up and thrown in the bin.

Maybe the Hurling Finals played in November and possibily Feis Boinne and Tailteann Cup Finals but everything else binned now

Totally devalues any finals now , a shame they couldnt let just county finals be played to get them finished.
Hard justify training for a game that could be months away at best.
Leagues are never going to be played now

If I was the Meath County Board I would go ahead and play the hurling finals scheduled for next weekend, it's bad enough that the GAA kicked most clubs players by scrapping the provincial and All Ireland club championships but now certain players are being denied the chance to play for a county medal, the Government have done the work in moving to level 3 meaning matches are behind closed doors and pubs etc are now limited to serving 15 people outdoors, there is no reason for the GAA to continue this show of bravado anymore, to do so is a disservice to the club player
