Camogie: Dunderry's Provincial journey ends

Camogie: Dunderry's Provincial journey ends
Dunderry celebrate their Meath Intermediate camogie championship final win at Trim

Dunderry 1-06 Clough/Ballacolla 2-07

Dunderry’s first-ever appearance in Leinster camogie will live long in the memory, despite the disappointment of seeing their provincial journey come to an end against Clough-Ballacolla Camogie on home soil.

There was a real buzz around Dunderry GAA Grounds as the club welcomed its first Leinster opponents, with a fantastic turnout from the local community creating a wonderful atmosphere for this special occasion. It was a day that represented so much more than the result, reflecting the dedication and progress of a group who have given their supporters plenty to celebrate throughout the season.

With a strong wind favouring Dunderry in the opening half, the home side worked hard to make their advantage count. Aoife Minogue, Molly Dowd and Maria McLoughlin contributed valuable scores, while a well-taken goal from Minogue, following a dropping effort from Dowd, gave Dunderry a significant boost. The hosts headed into the interval with a 1-4 to 0-4 lead, knowing a major test awaited after the restart.

Clough/Ballacolla came out determined to turn the contest around and used the conditions to their advantage. A goal and two points shifted the momentum towards the visitors, leaving Dunderry with work to do. The home side refused to surrender, with Niamh Daly and Maria Ma Loughlin adding two important points to keep the contest alive.

As the minutes ticked away, Dunderry continued to search for a way back into the game, but Clough/Ballacolla managed the closing stages well. A second goal for the visitors helped them establish the decisive advantage, and Dunderry's brave efforts ultimately fell short.

While the final whistle brought an end to Dunderrys Leinster campaign, it cannot take away from what this team has achieved. To reach this stage and bring provincial camogie to Dunderry for the first time is an achievement to be celebrated.

Off the pitch, the community spirit was just as impressive, with volunteers from across the club working together to ensure the occasion was a memorable one. From the preparations around the grounds to the refreshments served throughout the day, it was a true reflection of what makes Dunderry special.

The journey may have ended today, but the memories, achievements and inspiration these girls have provided will remain. With success across both grades this year, they have given the club so many reasons to be proud. Best wishes to Clough-Ballacolla in their Semi-final.
