Boyne Óg 4-9 Dunsany 2-7
Boyne Óg became the second winners of the Declan Black Memorial Cup with this eight point replay victory over Dunsany at a wet and windy Bective. This first game was abandoned due to a serious injury two weeks ago in Kilmainham.
Storm Boelo failed to take away from the standard of football produced by these two talented sides.
The winners dominated early on and led 3-2 to 0-0 at the end of the opening quarter. Points from Sean Monahan and Brendan Nicholson along with goals from Roan Saunders, Monahan and Cooper Lynch gave the combination side a firm grip on proceedings. Oliver Mallon put Dunsany on the scoreboard after 26 minutes but by half time they had narrowed the lead to four points. James Mallon landed a monster two pointer, Harry Maguire opened his account, James Corrigan’s point attempt ended up in the net and a single from Mallon left it 3-3 to 1-5 at the break. Game on.
Boyne Óg pushed that lead out to eight with early second half points from the impressive Monahan (2), Eoin Campbell and Lynch. Dunsany were back in it when Mallon’s ’45 ended up in the Boyne Óg net. Boyne Óg were not to be denied. Monahan raised another two white flags before full back Billy Coyne finished to the Dunsany net with five minutes remaining. Mallon got one back for the team in Red but by then Boyne Óg were on their way to victory.
After the game Helen Black and Joe O’Brien presented the Declan Black Memorial Cup to Fionn Campbell.
