Football championship semi final / final round up

Football championship semi final / final round up
Recording a little piece of history. This young Kilmainhamwood supporter takes it all in after their win over Kilmainham in the Junior B Fc final at Grangegodden.

And there you have it. The 'Wood' are Junior B champions. It's Donaghmore Ashbourne v Wolfe Tones in the senior, Duleek Bellewstown and O'Mahony's will go in search of the Mattie McDonnell Cup while Ballinlough and Curraha will meet to decide who plays Intermediate football in 2027.

Sunday: Kilmainhamwood got their day off to a brilliant start with a comfortable win in the Junior B final against Kilmainham in front of a large crowd at Grangegodden. The winners led 0-9 to 0-5 at half time. Rian Stafford gave an exhibition and scored a massive 1-16, that included 5 two pointers.

For the second day in a row Devenish Park was packed for the second Senior semi final between holders Summerhill and Wolfe Tones. Playing with the wind the Tones led 1-10 to 0-8 at the break, the impressive Kyle Moran with the game's only goal. Shane McCoy’s charges bossed the second half proceedings and set up a county final date with Donaghmore Ashbourne.

Simonstown played hosts to the 4.30pm throw in, for the eagerly awaited IFC semi final between Duleek Bellewstown and Walterstown. Inspired by Eamonn Armstrong and Robin Clarke the team in Green and Gold held a 2-10 to 2-5 interval advantage, Cianan Byrne and Kyle Doherty with the goals. The winners led 3-13 to 2-8 going into the last quarter and despite a late Walterstown push they held on to secure a meeting with Navan O’Mahony’s in two weeks time.

Favourites Curraha booked their place in the Junior A final with a comprehensive win over Slane under lights at Skryne. Gavin Coyle’s men looked sluggish in the opening half at the end of which they had a slender 1-7 to 1-5 lead. The ‘Ha’ turned on the style in the second half and aided by goals from Conor Moriarty (2) and Niall McLarnon they went on to book a final date with Ballinlough on Friday 16th.

St. Brigid’s withstood a late St. Mary’s surge to preserved their Junior A football championship status by the narrowest of margins in front of another big crowd at Martry.

Saturday: A day of shocks. Navan O’Mahony’s made light work of favourites St. Pats in the Intermediate Football Championship semi final in front of a hugh crowd at Dunsany. The Brews Hill outfit started at a blistering pace and were 2-5 to 0-0 up after 13 minutes. The winners led 3-11 to 0-7 at the break, Sean Betson, Duggie Dillon and Cormac Nugent with the goals.

A quick dash over to Dunganny and Donaghmore Ashbourne caused the upset of the day with five points to spare over last years finalists Ratoath. Timmy O’Regan’s men made a push for home in the third quarter outscoring Ratoath 1-4 to 0-2, Darragh McGovern with the crucial goal. An Andy Colgan two pointer made sure of victory.

Back to Cortown under lights and Ballinough over turned last year’s semi final loss to St. Vincents with three points to spare in a pulsating JFC semi final. The winners turned in a massive first half shift and led at the break 0-13 to 0-4. A Harry Ryan goal gave the North Meath side a 13 point lead heading into the last quarter but the Reds had to withstand a late Vincents rally to seal the win.

It was a double delight for Trim in the All County Junior championship while Oldcastle ended the year in style with silverware at Paddy O’Brien Park.
