Dunshaughlin Royal Gaels 1-27 Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-3

Dunshaughlin Royal Gaels quest for a four in a row of Meath Senior Football Championship titles began with this dominant victory over Donaghmore Ashbourne on Pitch 2 at Dunshaughlin. 

Fomer county stars Niamh O’Sullivan and Bronagh Sheridan gave an exhibition as the holders outplayed the visitors in perfect conditions. The talented corner forwards finished with 1-19 between them. At the first water break the home side led 1-9 to 0-0 and when referee Keith Sheerin blew the half time whistle they were 1-19 to 0-0 in front.

Credit to Donaghmore Ashbourne, they refused to throw in the towel. Ciara Doherty opened their account in the early stages of the second half as they began to enjoy more possession. Goals from full forward Abbie Timmons and Doherty narrowed the lead. Royal Gaels kept the scoreboard working with points from O’Sullivan, Sheridan, Meadhbh Byrne and county captain Niamh Gallogly to run out comfortable winners.

Next up for the champions is a trip to Skryne while Donaghmore Ashbourne take on Seneschalstown at home.
