Kilmainhamwood 3-9 Drumconrath 1-13

Kilmainhamwood and Drumconrath made the short trip to the picturesque Meath Hill on Friday evening for a must win 1st round game of the Junior B Championship. 

Kilmainhamwood started the better of the 2 teams kicking 1-4 to no score in 10 minutes via a goal and point from Kian Gillespie, 2 frees from Shane Townley and a further point from Darragh Smith. Drumconrath in typical fashion didn’t lie down and got a strangle hold on the game to keep chipping away at points to have things level 1-4 to 0-7 at half time.

The men in white went about turning the screw on Drumconrath in the second half and this plan started well with a fisted ball to the net from Dylan Ogle making his 1st Championship appearance for the club. Drumconrath mustered nice scores of their own to keep within touching distance, but the Wood kept plugging away with scores from Killian Russell and 2 scores from Shane Townley. Drumconrath cleaning up a lot of the breaking ball around midfield were able to close the gap to a draw with about 5 tense minutes to go. Substitute Eoin Rooney looked to have won the game for the Wood with a well taken goal under pressure but there was to be another twist in the tale. Drumconrath on the attack had been awarded a free and kept playing on and rifled the ball to the back of the next much to most people's confusion. The Wood however had 2 late scores in the tank via Brian Cassidy and Noah Madden to wrap up this hard-fought victory.
