Trailing by a point with time up Bhulf Tón were awarded a free for a breech of the three man up rule but eschewed the easy point score and went for the two pointer which would have yielded a valuable two league points against table toppers Gaeil Colmcille. Two points would have left them with a chance of a semi-final appearance  with one game left to play. Alex Mc Keever’s valiant effort into the wind went narrowly wide and Tones failed to manage a victory which looked very unlikely at half time given the strength of the wind they faced in the second half. Tones led 1 06 to 1 05 at half time. Tones goal was a superb finish from a Stephen Sheppard drop kick following a cross field pass from Adrian Crawford. Jake Mc Fadden was unlucky not to net a goal in the first half from close range while Conor Mc Keever got down low so save brilliantly from close range mid way through the second half in a sequence that led to three consecutive saves from close range. The significant second half score came from a Kells penalty awarded for a “foot block” which left the score 1 12 to 3 10 in favour of the visitors.
