FL Div 11: Dunsany too strong for Kilmainham

April 20, 2026

Kilmainham's Sean King

Kilmainham 2nds took on Dunsany on Friday 17th April in Kilmainham in round 3 of the Division 11 A league.

This match was going to prove a challenge due to the number of players unavailable. To be able to field a second team is a big achievement for our club and it is something that we should be proud of. Dunsany had a nice mix of youth and experience throughout their team, and this is the key to success at this level. We had loads of experience and less of the youth! Both teams will be delighted to get a game for their players. Dunsany started the match very brightly, but it was Kilmainham that spurned a good goal chance through Dean Peppard after a nice move. In truth, Dunsany could have had goals of their own. They started to settle and opted for some nice points before scoring two goals after 15 minutes. These two goals put them in front and they never looked back. We had plenty of possession around the middle of the field, but we were really struggling to get into good scoring possessions and far too often gave the ball away. Paddy Hennigan did hit a long-range point that clipped the cross bar and went over and Sean King who was proving a handful in at full forward, hit two nice points from free’s. The half-time whistle sounded with Dunsany in full control of this match.

Kilmainham were against the wind in the second half. We are going to blame this for the poor-quality shooting. The lads showed great fight and determination to try and reduce the deficit. The lads put together some good team moves but unfortunately, they couldn’t put the ball between the uprights. Dunsany were happy to punish us at the other end. Sean King hit his third point in the match and that’s where our scoring ended. Trevor Lynch rediscovered his love for the short kick out and this helped us to gain primary possession. Our corner forward Brian Black spent more time on the floor than he did on his feet! He can’t blame the pitch surface. Dunsany ran out convincing winners with plenty to spare in a good sporting match.

While nobody likes to lose, the lads can be proud of this performance. They gave it everything for their club. It is important that they stick together and look forward to the remaining games. Next up for the club is round 3 of the Division 3 A League against Slane on Saturday 18th April at 6pm in Kilmainham. Please come and support the lads.
