Kildalkey's Paddy Conneely with Paddy Coyne Killyon during the Brendan Davis Cup Final at Fr. Plunkett Park

Kildalkey 2-25 Killyon 2-9

Kildalkey produced a brilliant second half display to relieve holders Killyon of the Brendan Davis Cup last night at Fr. Plunkett Memorial Park.

These two met in last year’s decider with Killyon claiming their first title in 11 years. Kildalkey last claimed the cup, in honour of one of their club greats, in 2023.

The large crowd in attendance were treated to a very competitive first half. The holders got a brilliant start with a Shane Clarke goal inside the opening minute. The impressive Dylan Farrell added to their tally with his first point before the home side got going. Evan Fitzgerald, the outstanding Nicky Potterton, Gary Kelly, Paddy Barnwell and Paddy Conneely raised white flags before Potterton was in for their first goal. Fitzgerald doubled his tally and Mickey Cole’s charges were 1-6 to 1-2 in front. Farrell hit a quick 1-2 to bring Killyon back into it but Kildalkey finished the stronger.

Conneely, Fitzgerald and Potterton raised white flags before, Potterton with an outrageous piece of skill set up Conor Fitzgerald for goal number two. Kildalkey went in at the break 2-10 to 2-6 in front.

There was only one team in it after the break. As the rain came down and the conditions went downhill Kildalkey took over. By the end of the third quarter they were 2-19 to 2-8 in front.

Conneely, Potterton (5), Kelly (2) and Luke Rickard added points to put their team in total control. Adam Gannon stopped the slide for Killyon with their second point of the half before Kildalkey hit another five without reply to seal victory.

After the game Nick Fitzgerald, members of the Davis Family and Brendan Harmon (Klass Oil sponsors) presented the Brendan Davis Cup to Nicky Potterton.
