FL Div 3: Donaghmore Ashbourne fall short despite half time lead

Donaghmore Ashbourne’s second team, despite leading at the interval lost out to Blackhall Gaels in a low scoring Division 3 encounter in Kilcloon on Thursday evening. Both teams had loads of scoring chances, but the front end of the impending storm Dave affected their ability to trouble the scoreboard operator. 

Donaghmore Ashbourne started well and raced into an early 6-point lead with Daniel Doherty raising two orange flags and Patrick Moran and Darragh Gleeson adding points before the home sides opening point on 11 minutes. The second quarter saw a number of chances squandered by  both sides with Doherty extending the lead on 25 minutes and the home side replying just before the interval.  

The third quarter was another end-to-end period with plenty of chances and the home side outscored Donaghmore Ashbourne by 2 points to 1 to reduce the deficit to 4 points.

Blackhall Gaels hit a purple patch at the start of the final quarter with a two pointer on 49 minutes, a point from a converted free on 53 minutes and a goal on 55 minutes to go ahead for the first time in the game.

The sides traded a brace of points late on with Darragh Gleeson converting a free and substitute Eoin Byrne pointing from play for the visitors, but Blackhall Gaels held out for the win.
