St Ultans 2-13 Kilbride 2-06
St Ultans won their opening game in Div 8 in Martry.
There was an early kick off with Meath in the league final and Ultans started brightly with a Gearoid Rennicks point. The visitors scored three points in a row before Ultans replied with three from play from Charlie O’Brien, Tommy Buchanan and Tom Brennan. Kilbride got the key score of the half with a goal from a penalty but Ultans closed out the half well with Adam Rogers and Aaron Smyth pointing either side of a Kilbride point.
Trailing by one, a good start was going to be crucial and Gary Rogers forced a turnover and released Darren Mallon who finished powerfully to the roof of the net. Rogers then extended the lead with a fisted point. Kilbride replied with a point but Richie Lynagh raised another white flag. Adam Rogers got in for a goal chance and showed plenty of composure to finish to the net. Kilbride looked to strike back straight away but were denied by keeper Dave Halleran. Ultans had chances but were wasteful and Kilbride capitalised with a goal and point. Ultans were now in a contest but finished strongly, a Tommy Buchanan fisted point, was followed by an Adam Rogers free. Gary Rogers then got the only two pointer of the game with a fine effort from play before Adam Rogers rounded off the scoring.
