Navan O’Mahony’s 0-07
Carnaross 4-11
O’Mahony’s suffered their first defeat of the campaign in this third round encounter of the Div 4 FL, where they lost out to a very strong Carnaross side in a wet and windy Paddy O’Brien Park.
Carnaross were off to a lightning start and had four points on the board in as three minutes. O’Mahony’s responded well with points from Caoimhe Cullen and Alison O’Toole to reduce the gap to the minimum. Carnaross kicked 1-03 in quick succession before Ashling McElwaine broke the momentum with a point. A Carnaross goal before half time left O’Mahony’s with a lot to do in the second half, in spite of Chloe Duffy’s late point before the break.
An uphill struggle ensued when Carnaross goaled within ninety seconds of the resumption. Points from O’Toole added to O’Mahony’s tally but Carnaross also kept the scoreboard ticking over. O’Mahony’s also had a number of goal opportunities, which were narrowly missed but Carnaross proved too strong in the finish, with a late goal worsening the look of the scoreboard.
