Athy advanced to the last four of Leinster club senior football championship after seeing off Summerhill by 1-16 to 0-9 in Newbridge this evening.

The Kildare champions had trailed by 0-5 to 0-3 when Brian Maher hammered in their goal in the 17th minute to surge them in front.

After backing up their second Meath SFC crown in three years by seeing off Killoe in the provincial first round a fortnight ago, Summerhill moved back ahead thanks to a Diarmuid McCabe two-pointer before the scores of Kevin Feely and David Hyland saw the home side go in with a 1-6 to 0-8 lead at the break.

A brace of points by Colm Moran extended the advantage to three within 10 minutes of the restart and Athy kicked on from there, with a Niall Kelly two-pointer being backed up by a pair from Ben Purcell and the points of Feely, Sean Moore and Cian Keaveney rounding off the victory.

Ultimately, the hosts would outscore their opponents by 0-10 to 0-1 in the second-half to win by double figures in the end and set-up a provincial semi-final date against either Naomh Mairtin (Louth) or Portarlington (Laois) who square off tomorrow afternoon in Drogheda (1.30pm).
