Doireann Mellett gains possession for O'Mahony's during the Senior B Camogie final against Drumree at Kildalkey

Navan O’Mahony’s 0-11 Blackhall Gaels 2-11

Navan O’Mahony’s lost out to a strong Blackhall Gaels side in the final of the Senior B Championship in their first year in that grade, with goals ultimately proving the difference between the two sides.

Right from the start, Blackhall Gaels looked dangerous up front and Alannah Brady and Caoimhe McKenna were required to make interceptions in the opening minutes. Isabel O’Connor opened the scoring with a point from play after two minutes before Blackhall responded in turn.

In the seventh minute, Izzy Kinsella gave O’Mahony’s the lead but when Blackhall equalised, this marked the last time that the Brews Hill side would have the advantage. Although Mags Tomkins made an impressive clearance shortly beforehand, in a four minute spell at the beginning of the second quarter, Blackhall added 1-03 to give them a five point lead.

Although Aoibhín Kielty added a point, the victors added three in a row before half time to go in with an eight point advantage at the break.

With the wind behind them in the second half, O’Mahony’s got off to a good start and began to chip away at the deficit. Within a minute, Aoibheann Leahy had split the posts before Kielty did similar a minute later.

The gap was reduced to five when the Leahy sisters combined well with Ailbhe finishing with a point. The momentum seemed to be with O’Mahony’s at this stage but this soon changed when Blackhall found the net again and left O’Mahony’s chasing.

For much of the remainder of the match, the sides exchanged points with Kielty and Jorja Keogh adding scores for O’Mahony’s. Lauren Woods hit a point from play with one minute of normal time remaining.

O’Mahony’s needed goals but the Blackhall Gaels defence provide impenetrable in the closing stages, working very hard to make sure they were not beaten. In the end, six points separated the sides and Blackhall Gaels emerged victoriuous.
