Killyon came out on top of the Senior B HC semi final, with goals coming at the right time for them to push on and see the game out. The game was a draw at half time but it was Killyon who performed better in the second half.

O’Mahony’s were against a strong wind in the first half. The conditions were not easy for hurling for either side and almost eight minutes had passed before Killyon added a point from play, which they followed up with a 65.

Jack Walsh opened the scoring for O’Mahony’s with a point from a free, in the tenth minute before doing likewise seven minutes later to draw the sides level. Killyon edged ahead again with a point from play.

With eight minutes remaining in the half, Sean McDermott placed a good ball into the oncoming Finn Malone who had one thing in mind. The latter ran towards the goal before finding the net to give O’Mahony’s the lead.

Killyon hit two points from frees and had a goal opportunity in injury time. The shot was taken under pressure from Ben McEntaggart and was delivered to safety by John Foley and the sides went in level at half time.

With the wind behind them for the second half, O’Mahony’s seemed to be in a good position before the resumption. They were soon left chasing the game however, when Killyon won the throw-in and had a green flag raised within thirty seconds.

After adding a point, three minutes later they found the net again to put some distance between the sides. Points from Rían Porter and Walsh reduced the gap slightly but Killyon kept calm. Foley produced a number of saves in this period.

With fifteen minutes to go, the gap was down to four points after two scores from Walsh. Killyon added two points from play in quick succession and left O’Mahony’s needing goals to have any chance.

When a goal came, it was at the opposite end of the pitch, edging Killyon further ahead. Although Walsh and Cormac Keyes added scores in the closing stages, Killyon got the last score of the game to run out as comfortable winners.
