Drumree 1-11 to Na Fianna 1-9
It was a dead heat in Na Fianna, played out in windy conditions but under a glorious evening sun. The breeze made every ball a battle, every score hard-earned, and it set the stage for a cracking contest between two sides who weren’t backing down.
From the first whistle to the last, this team showed fight, determination, and serious heart. Sonia got us off the mark with a poacher’s finish, reacting fastest after Chloe’s strike was saved.
In the middle of the pitch, our engine room were working amazing together. Shona and Chloe Morris were relentless – covering every blade of grass, winning dirty ball, linking defence to attack, and driving the team forward time and again. Their work rate set the tone for the whole side.
Louise was flawless on frees and popping up everywhere, while Lisa pulled off HUGE saves in the first half to keep us in touch against a strong wind – we went in only 4 down at the break.
Cliodhna was rock solid at the back, midfield worked their socks off up and down the pitch, and Shayla was wonderful – clearing danger one minute, scoring at the other end the next! Ellie and Aisling gave us the spark, breaking lines and driving at the Na Fianna defence.
The turning point? With 10 minutes left, Aisling caught a monster ball, laid it off to Chloe, and from under the dugout on halfway, she split the posts! From there the girls rallied, the crowd got behind them, and Drumree pushed for home.
Ellie and Chloe both went close for goals late on but the Na Fianna keeper stood tall. Louise stepped up to slot the 45s and to seal the win.
