Jorja Keogh gains possession for O'Mahony's during their Senior B camogie championship win over Kildalkey

With a win over Kildalkey on Tuesday evening, the camogs made it two from two in the Senior B championship.

With the wind behind them in the first half, O’Mahony’s got off to a good start. After Kildalkey opened the scoring with a point from play, Isabel O’Connor responded from the resulting puckout to split the posts. After Kildalkey edged ahead again, a good play between Jorja Keogh and Lauren Woods ended in O’Connor equalising again.

A minute later, Izzy Kinsella picked out Woods with a perfect handpass with the latter finding the net. In the next five minutes, the sides exchanged points with O’Connor and Aoibhín Kielty scoring for O’Mahony’s before Woods rattled the net again in the tenth minute. O’Connor, less than sixty seconds after setting up the goal, raised her own green flag and O’Mahony’s seemed to be un full control of the match.

Cara Ratty added her name to the score-sheet in the eleventh minute, as did Keogh a few minutes later. Five minutes remained in the half when Kielty stood over a penalty which she duly converted. O’Connor added another point before Kildalkey hit the final two scores of the half.

With a strong lead built up, O’Mahony’s needed to ensure that they didn’t concede goals in the second half.  This was made possible in no small part by great defensive play from Saorise O’Regan, Tara Fay and Caoimhe McKenna along with some great interceptions and blocks from Doireann Mellett.

After five minutes in the second half, points from O’Connor and Ratty had increased the lead to fifteen before the home side reduced it with a goal. Kildalkey kept the pressure up to add to points reducing the gap to two.

Two points from Kielty and Ratty broke the momentum and kept the game firmly in O’Mahony’s hands. Anna Gardiner, who had been tenacious in midfield throughout, added her name to the score-sheet.

Kildalkey added another few scores and O’Connor scored the final goal of the match in injury time, leaving O’Mahony’s as comfortable winners.
