FL Div 4: Bragging rights for Moynalty

June 30, 2025

Moynalty's Pauric O'Connor

Moynalty 1-19 Carnaross 1-11

In a fiercely contested local derby, Moynalty avenged last year's final defeat with an emphatic 1-19 to 1-11 win over Carnaross, delivering a performance built on grit, clinical finishing, and second-half dominance.

Moynalty opened brightly, with Niall O’Connor setting the tone from midfield with two early points. His powerful runs caused problems for Carnaross, but the visitors soon found their rhythm, scoring five unanswered points to move into a 0-05 to 0-03 lead. A missed goal opportunity by John Brogan proved costly, as Carnaross capitalized with a goal at the other end.

But just as Carnaross looked to take control, Pauric O’Connor reignited Moynalty’s challenge with a low, hard finish into the net after a flowing team move. Though Carnaross edged ahead again before the break, Moynalty had laid the foundation for a strong second half.

Half-time: Moynalty 1-06 – Carnaross 1-07

The second half belonged entirely to Moynalty. Johnny Lynch kept the scoreboard ticking with two long-range dead ball scores, while Jude Gilsenan added a sharp point early on. Pauric O’Connor continued his standout display, finishing with 1-06 and terrorizing the Carnaross defence.

Ollie Sheridan was another key figure, contributing four crucial points and working tirelessly across the half-forward line. Moynalty’s scoring spread reflected their control, with additional points from Richard Gilsenan, Sean McMahon, Paul Lynch, and Bryan McCormack.

Smart substitutions helped seal the win. The introduction of Paddy Byrne, Jake Smyth, Mikey Smyth, and Cormac Kearney brought fresh energy, with Byrne especially influential in the middle third.

Moynalty managed the closing stages with discipline and composure, keeping Carnaross at bay and closing out a deserved victory. After last season’s heartbreak, this performance was a statement of progress and determination.
