Trim 0-11 St Marys 5-13

St Marys maintained their 100% record in the Tommy Dowd Oil Division 6 following a victory against hosts Trim.

The away side had a dream start to the game, hitting the away side for 2 goals in the opening two minutes, Caimin Hughes and Liam O’Neill Sheridan finding the net. Further points from Joey Greene (2) and Andrew Brien (2) had the visitors 10 points to the good before Trim hit their first score of the game. Further scores from a Brien free and Dylan Bagnall increased the lead before the home side replied with two pointed frees of their own. This rounded off a frenetic opening quarter, with the home side growing into the game further as the half wore on. O’Neill Sheridan was influential in the opening stages and pointed in his last action of the game due being withdrawn to injury on 20 mins. Three scores for the home side, the second of which was a well struck two pointed free, were either side of a score from Greene to round off the first half scoring.

Half time: Trim 0-6 St Marys 2-8

It was the home side who applied the early pressure in the second half fashioning some scoring chances, but it was the away side to trouble the scoreboard first, points from Sean Nulty and Hughes got Marys moving before Trim responded with a point of their own. Greene pointed again before Marys goaled again with the move of the game. A quick move from back to front involving Cathal Sheridan and Tadhg Dixon found its way to Brien, who in turn excellently found first half substitute Cian O’Brien. With work still to do, he sent it low to the keepers right to put real daylight between the sides. Dixon followed this up with an excellent long range point, to the delight of the travelling crowd.

Trim kept the fight up with 4 of the next 5 scores in the game, a well struck 45 from their midfielder among them. This was their last score of the game, as the Marys looked to hammer home their advantage late on. A move started by Nulty ended up with the very impressive Greene finding the net, before Hughes finished emphatically to the net soon after for his second goal of the night. William McSweeney added a late score to round off proceedings, leaving Marys in a healthy position heading into the last rounds of the league.
