Castletown 4-16 St. Pats 1-11
Castletown claimed the Corn na Boinne with a comfortable win over St. Pats today on a perfect sod at Páirc Tailteann.
The winners dominated for most of this game. Darragh Weldon (2), Adam Matthews (2) and Kevin Ross gave Justin Carry Lynch’s charges a five point lead after seven minutes. John Mannion and Shane Landy replied for St. Pats and with six minutes remaining in the half the Stamullen men were just two in arrears thanks to fine scores from Neil O’Flaherty and Landy (3). But from there till the end of the half Castletown made a push for home.
Matthews raises the games first green flag, a minute later Rian McConnell followed suit. McConnell was in again for Castletown’s third goal three minutes later and on the stroke of half time Darragh Weldon put the icing on the cake with goal number four to sent Castletown to the dressing room 4-8 to 0-6 in front.
It was all about game management for the team in green and gold in the second half. Pats gave themselves some hope with a Landy goal inside the opening six minutes. Any chance of a come back were extinguished between the 8th and 16th minute as Castletown kicked four unanswered points from Darren Finney, Ross, McConnell and Weldon. The winners closed out in style with four answered point in the last five minutes to seal a very comfortable win.
After the game Eamon Barry presented the Corn na Boinne to captain Killian Smyth.
