HL Div 2: Two from two for Dunderry

April 18, 2025

Dunderry's Jordan Martin

Dunderry 3-13  Trim 2-10

Dunderry rolled out the red carpet for Trim in this round two clash of the hurling League. It was a sad week for the Village with the  passing of Fidelma Bligh who's husband Billy is a club stalwart and  never misses a game. Go bhfóire Dia uirthi.

The town drew first blood with a fortuitous goal. Cathal Barron won the resulting puc out and drilled over on the run. The reds converted a free before Evan Nolan struck twice (one free) and Jordan Martin slotted over a lovley team score which involved Fagan, Loughran, Ó Laoire and Leavy.

With the home crowd still applauding,Trim were  awarded a free on the 21 yard line. Spotting only 3 on the line a goal became an option and soon the green flag was raised. Trim went ahead by double scores and the home management were left  reeling the concession of two easy goals.

The home team took matters into their own hands however and with Kelly gathering a well delivered pass , he  headed goalwards along the endline-  and he  only had one thing on his mind and he duly cancelled out one those goals.

Leavy and Barron combined to set up Duffy to slot over. Jordan Martin pointed over the shoulder which John Mullane would be proud of. Barron who controlled the air space all evening drove over his second to leave the black and whites up by two. The next four points went Trims way before Martin stopped the rut, this time off the left.

The last score of the half was sweet from a Dunderry point of view. Evan Nolan picked up a sloppy Trim clearance and who better to rattle the net to leave it 2-8 against 2-6 at the interval.

Two Trim points tied proceedings before Nolan converted his second free of the evening. Trim weren't going home without a fight however and leveled the score from Play.

A quickly taken Mark Leavy free gave Nolan all the time in the world to plant his feet and raise a white flag. Rian Fay pointed from a tight angle against his Father's former club. Trim had had their chips at this stage and finished  the night off with a free. Adam Kelly and Mark Leavy stretched the lead out to three before we were treated to an amazing show of skills by Cathal Barron. Firstly it was another superb catch, then a forty yard run through the Trim defence and, just when it looked like he was running out of road and getting swarmed up- he unleashed his right boot and finished off the night with a wonder goal.

Dunderry: Jack Fagan, Ronán Brady, Liam Coogan, T J Loughran, Níall Ó Laoire, Conor Leavy, Fionn McHale, Jamie Duffy 0-1, William Tracy, Cathal Barron 1-2, Liam Dempsey, Jordan Martin 0-3, Evan Nolan 1-4 (2 frees), Adam Kelly 1-1, Niall Darcy

Subs: Mark Leavy 0-1 replaced William Tracy, Rian Fay -1  for Dempsey, Darragh Fay for Liam Coogan, Donagh Ó Laoire for Darcy, Cian Coogan for Jordan Martin.

A better performance from Dunderry with all of the scores except 2 points coming from play.
