Syddan 1-16 Moynalty 1-13

Syddan travelled to Moynalty last Tuesday evening for the 1st Round of Division 9 League.

The visitors jumped out of the blocks early on, and had a 4 point to no score lead with only 10 minutes into the game. 2 points from play from Josh McKenna and 2 from placed balls for Cormac Dardis.  Moynalty got to grips with the games and had 2 on the board with some nice play. Paddy Farrelly put Syddan up 3 again with a nice point from play.  Stuart Fedigan followed up with a well worked score from play.  Cormac Dardis pointed another free to put the visitors 4 up again with 20 minutes gone. Moynalty got one back with a score from a free. Gary McManus started an attacked from midfield and finished with a point from play.  Moynalty got another good score from play. Darren Smith got a well taken point from play. Both teams exchanged frees, in the closing minutes, and Cormac Dardis finished the first half with another score from a free.

Half Time Syddan 0-11 Moynalty 0-5

Syddan was very slow to get into the game after the break and found themselves trailing by only the minimum with 15 minutes gone on the clock, as Moynalty started the second half with all cylinders firing and put 1-5 on the scoreboard with no reply. Syddan got back into their scoring form of the first half with a free from Cormac Dardis and a score from play from Josh McKenna. Moynalty got 2 more frees to put themselves 2 in front again with less than 10 minutes remaining. Substitute Cathal Dardis let a high ball into the square with the hopes of a 2-pointer but the ball dropped short and the goal keeper not having a firm grip on the ball, the green flag was raised, putting Syddan 3 in front again with the clock ticking on. Moynalty got another free to leave 2 between the teams. Syddan finished out strongly as Cathal followed up with another point from play, and a point each from Cillian Rafferty and Darren Smith in the closing stages, left the visitors leave with a 3 point win.
