St. Vincents Robbie Lynch

St. Vincent’s 2-16 Eastern Gaels 0-04

St. Vincent’s welcomed Eastern Gaels to Masterson Park for their first ever League game. It was a game that was largely governed by the very strong wind but both teams played with a hunger to get their first points in this year’s Division 10.

The first half saw St. Vincent’s take the lead with a well worked point from play by Nigel Hand. With the assistance of a very strong wind Eastern Gaels were wide of the mark twice, before tying the scores with a fine point from play. Nigel Hand was again on hand to slot over another point. The Eastern Gaels keeper pulled off a fine save to deny St. Vincent’s from raising the green flag. The men in green the tied the game again with a point from play. Eastern Gaels were not short of chances, but accuracy in front of the posts was being hampered by the strong winds. St. Vincent’s added two more points with Richard Dunne scoring from play before Nigel hand slotted over a free. St. Vincent’s were staring to cope with the breeze better and were again denied a goal from short range by another excellent save from the Eastern Gaels keeper. Not to be denied scoring chances Eastern Gaels dropped a free in around the box but it was fisted just wide. Robbie Lynch added three points from play for the Ardcath men. In the final attack of the half Eastern Gaels struck the post and the rebound was buried to the back of the net, only to be denied as the referee had already blown for a free in.

Half Time – St. Vincent’s 0-07 Eastern Gaels 0-02

St. Vincent’s had the assistance of the wind in the second half, but it was Eastern Gaels who registered the first score of the half with a well worked point from play. St. Vincent’s responded with an attack that saw them rattle the crossbar before Richard Dunne slotted over a point from a free. The St. Vincent’s forward then used the wind to their advantage with Nigel Hand, twice, and Dylan Kavanagh getting in on the act with scores from distance. Robbie Lynch added another point. It was Robbie Lynch again who struck the crossbar but this time the ball found it’s way to the net. It was followed up by a goal from Richard Dunne to leave it a very difficult task for Eastern Gaels to come back against the wind and a St. Vincent’s team playing with confidence. Nigel Hand pointed again before Eastern Gaels scored a point from a free. Patrick McGill, Robbie Lynch, and Dylan Kavanagh finished out the scoring for St. Vincent’s with points from play. The final score did not reflect the work put in by Eastern Gaels in difficult conditions. They can be very proud of their first League outing and will no doubt improve for it.
