Castletown 3-13 Carnaross 2-06

Castletown proved too strong for the visitors Carnaross in the first round of the A League Division 4.

Castletown exploded out of the blocks registering the first 1-1. Shane Yore replied for the Hoops after his goal bound effort deflected off a Castletown defender to nestle into the net. However that's as good as it got for the Ross as the dominant home side exerted their superiority by kicking the next 2-4. These 2 sides met in the 2022 League final but now 2 grades separate them in Championship and this was evident in the first half.

Carnaross came out with renewed vigour in the second half and outscored their opponents by 2 points. Castletown registered a couple of frees before Paddy McDermott found the back of the net. Darragh O’Reilly made it 2 goals in 2 minutes for the Ross after a well worked move involving a number of intricate hand passes. Both teams traded frees as the game finally became competitive.  Carnaross wanted to finish strong and they ensured the scoreboard remained respectable by adding the final 4 points of the game. Substitute Dermot McGee pointed under pressure before Paddy McDermott doubled his tally. Paddy earlier saw his goal bound effort well saved by the young Castletown netminder as they went in search of much needed goals. The industrious Darragh O’Reilly registered the final 2 scores from placed balls.
Carnaross have a quick turn around as they host St Colmcillles to Pairc Naomh Chiarán on Thursday at 8pm in Round 2.
