FL Div 3: Hardworking Nobber lose out in Kilbride

March 25, 2024

Nobber's Jack Condra

Nobber 2 – 7 (13) Kilbride 1 – 11 (14)

Nobber made the long trip from the north end of the county to the south on Saturday afternoon last to face the 2023 Junior Football Champions Kilbride in what proved to be an entertaining game of football with the minimum between the sides after 60 minutes. A game played under dry conditions but with an unpredictable swirly wind that proved challenging for both sides.

Kilbride started brightest with a goal and a point within the first 5 minutes of play. The black and ambers’ responded quickly with a well-taken point from wingback Barry Bradley and a sensational goal from 25 yards out into the clubhouse end goals of the ground past the shocked Kilbride keeper by the returning from injury Jack Condra. The North Meath men followed this up in the next move with another goal assisted by Condra and finished coolly to the empty net by Karl Casserly. Kilbride responded with 4 unanswered points to take the lead. However, the North Meath men had other ideas and scores before the break from Joe Tierney and a free from Dale Larkin pushed the Deesiders in front by the minimum at the half-time interval.

Half-time Nobber 2 – 3 (9) Kilbride 1 – 5 (8)

Nobber started the second half in a positive fashion moving the ball well from defence to attack working some great team scores finished off well by Casserly and Conor Owens. Kilbride responded with a score of their own but Owens gained possession once more around the middle of the park and split the posts – leaving Martin Morgan’s charges leading by 3 heading towards the final quarter of the game. Kilbride continued to chip away at the scoreboard, mainly from frees that were conceded. The Nobber men were only able to register one score in the final quarter, a free from Larkin that hit the crossbar. A game that could have gone the black and ambers way on another day had things been different.

Overall a hardworking team performance from all involved. Next up for the black and ambers is a home game against St Vincents on Saturday, April 6, at 6 PM.
