March 25, 2024

St. Brigids Hugh Fanning

St Brigids 0-14 Cortown 1-4

St Brigids travelled to Cortown on Saturday evening and started their reserve league campaign with a seven point victory.

On a very heavy pitch with tough windy conditions both sides exchanged scores in the opening quarter leaving a score line of 2 points each. On the 18th minute St Brigids failed to deal with a high looping ball and it found the back of their net. The Ballinacree men responded very well hitting 3 points in a row, most notably Rory Collins hitting an excellent point on the 20th minute. St Brigids dominated the remainder of the half leaving a score line of 1-2 to 8 points in favour of the visitors at the break.

Both teams exchanged scores in the third quarter but the St Brigids midfielders of Leonard Tuite and Hugh Fanning along with the introduction of Peter Skelly would see the Ballinacree side completely dominated the middle third winning most of the the opposition kickouts. St Brigids pushed on and kick another 6 points in the second half with great strong running from their half back line and some well taken scores from Jack Blake and Tommy Russell. St Brigids will face St Vincent’s in round two of the reserve league next Sunday in Ballinacree at 11am.
