Donal O Lionsigh Cup: Gorman goals the difference as Kildalkey lose out

March 25, 2024

Kildalkey's Matty Cully

Kilmessan 3-14 Kildalkey 1-12

Kildalkey lost out to a stronger Kilmessan team on Sunday morning played on a fine Kilmessan pitch for the time of year in ideal conditions for hurling.

Short a number of players from the last game Kildalkey stayed in this game for most of this game but 3 goals from full forward Conor Gorman ultimately was the difference between the teams.

Lee Coldrick got the Kildalkey team up and running with a fine point Ciaran Browne from close range and a free from Mattie Cully but a Kilmessan goal rocked them but further points from Cully (4) and Coldrick left 2 between the teams 1-7 to 0-8 at the break. Kildalkey were left to rue a few missed chances for points but especially 2 goal chances that would have boosted them but they didn’t come off unfortunately.

Kildalkey needed a good start but another Gorman goal pushed Kilmessan ahead and further points put a gap between them 2 points from Cully and a goal from Ryan Byas gave their team some hope but a third Kilmessan goal sealed the win for them Cully and Coldrick kept trying and tagged on 2 more points but it was Kilmessan who won out on the day on a 3-14 to 1-12 score line .

Arron Traynor Liam Carroll and Daire Ryan tried their best in defence and Cully Coldrick Byas and Shay Diggins never stopped trying but unfortunately they were beaten by a stronger Kilmessan team on the day .
