Brendan Davis Cup: No joy for Killyon in Baconstown

March 25, 2024

Andrew Hannon and Dylan Duignan made their senior debuts for Killyon against Na Fianna

Killyon 0-8 Na Fianna 1-9

Killyon seniors played the second round of the Brendan Davis Cup at baconstown. Similar to the first round, Killyon lined out with a mix of youth and experienced players. Unfortunately, they came out the wrong side of the result on this occasion.

Killyon played with a strong breeze going diagonally across the pitch in the first half. However, our seniors couldn't capitalise with it. A number of frees in the first half drifted wide.

Na Fianna on the other hand didn't seem bothered playing into the wind, scoring from play and set pieces. Na Fianna scored a goal halfway through the half putting a dampener on the mood for the Killyon men.

Half time score was 1-6 to 0-2 to Na Fianna. Both points for Killyon coming from frees taken by Keith Keoghan.

Killyon opted to stay out for their half time team talk, while Na Fianna ran inside.

The second half saw the introduction of the first sub of the game, David Raleigh for Killyon. He proved to be a vital part of Killyons second half display, scoring 5 points throughout.

There was no goal scoring opportunities in the second half, the closest chance coming from a mistake from Na Fianna's full back, dropping the ball from a short puck out. Unfortunately, on this occasion the pressure from Jake Ryan wasn't enough to overturn the ball from the opponent.

On a day that contained a number of mistakes, everyone will take learnings from the performance and be ready to bounce back for the final round of the Brendan Davis Cup in two and a half weeks time against Kildalkey.

A great positive to take from today was another 2 young stars making their senior hurling debuts. Shout-out to Andrew Hannon and Dylan Duignan for making an impact on the game today."
