Navan O’Mahony’s 4-15 Dunderry 3-14

The umpires didn’t get much down time in this Div 2 HL encounter in a sunny Paddy O’Brien Park. The game got off to a fast paced start, with both sides ratcheting up a high score early on.

Within the opening two minutes, Dunderry had found the Navan O’Mahony’s net to take an early lead. Within seconds, Andrew Snow had replicated this the other end of the field to leave things all square.

Two points from Paddy Dillon put Navan O’Mahony’s ahead again until a Dunderry goal swapped the advantage in the fourth minute. This pattern continued, with both sides raising flags at each end. Midway through the half, Dunderry lead by two points, 2-05 to 1.06, with Snow, Colm O’Toole and Dermot McKenna all registering points for Navan O’Mahony’s.

Ten minutes later, Navan O’Mahony’s were in the lead again following a Shane McCarthy goal and points from Snow, Dillon and Darragh Connell. Two points within seconds from Dunderry were answered by McCarthy with another goal , followed by points from John Foley and McKenna to see out the half.

Although the second half would prove quieter, it started off with a number of scores also. Both sides pointed in the first five minutes, which Dunderry added to in the ninth and twelfth minute.

In the sixteenth minute, McCarthy put Pat Nolan’s side three points ahead by completing his hat-trick, with a well placed kick to the net. Dunderry responded well, and the sides swapped points again. A quickly-taken free resulted in a Dunderry goal, leaving only a puck of a ball between the sides with five to go.

In the twenty-seventh minute, this was reduced to two with a Dunderry effort from play but points from Foley and Dillon proved the insurance that Navan O’Mahony’s needed and they claim the two points on offer on the day
